Solder the splice that you just twisted together. Be sure to use “rosin core” solder (refers to the type of flux that is inside the solder) . DO NOT use “acid core” solder for any electrical connections. The idea when soldering is to heat up the wires  just enough so that the solder is melted by the heat transferred to the wire by the soldering iron. Don’t use too much solder. If you end up with a big ball of solder on the splice the heat shrink tubing may not fit over it.

CAUTION: DO NOT HOLD ONTO THE WIRE WITH YOUR FINGERS TOO CLOSE TO
THE SOLDER JOINT, YOU COULD GET BURNED AS THE HEAT TRAVELS UP THE
WIRE. KEEP YOU FINGERS A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOLDER JOINT.

After the soldered connection cools down tug on the wires to check that you have a good solder joint.
